... The title of this blog has to do with a Will Bruder quote I heard while attending the University of Arizona College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture (CAPLA) during the Fall of 1999 - "Learn to master the trash can and you might become something" - It really resonated with me and has stuck with me to this day. I suppose for me the concept hit hard that although you can discard an idea, concept, sketch, design, whatever for a certain project you may be able to revisit it at a later date under different circumstances - In other words designs never die, they evolve, they hibernate, they circle-back but they never die...Or maybe he was just telling us to quit our ideas of becoming Architects and to go live in a public park somewhere; which, given the current state of the industry probably would not have been such a bad idea...

That is what this Blog will be for me - With over a decade in the industry I have come to realize that what I thought I would be doing on a daily basis and what I actually do are pretty darn different - BUT - I still have ideas, I still have hopes and I still have my creativity; So, I figured this would be a good outlet...I will share my thoughts on work and the industry as well as whatever moments of creativity I can muster - And, yes, at the direction of my Wife I will keep the swearing to an absolute minimum.

TO NEW BEGINNINGS:

... And it is done; nearly eight years have come and gone - Countless adventures, laughs, ups, downs and occasional aggravations (...come on, be honest with yourself; work is called work for a reason - Otherwise it would be called something different) - And now, it is on to the next episode in my professional storyline - So, close my eyes, fade to black and roll credits.

BRACKETS, 2012 - NOW THIS IS ART; 'NUF SAID:

... Too bad I am terrible at brackets now that I am an adult and separated from "Point Guard U" - Oh well, at least it's a fun time:

SKYLIGHT? - MORE LIKE A WINDOW TO PURE AWESOME:

... Well, today I resigned from my position at my current employer - I will not name names (...because that is not what this blog is about) but I have worked at my current office as a Project Manager/Staff Architect/Associate Architect for eight years this July - The lion's share of a decade. I had my good days and my bad...But, in the end that is what we all struggle with - However, I need to stress that the days were nowhere near as bad as this post might imply and I was given tremendous opportunities to manage, mentor, network and also throw some little tidbits of hip design to the Northstate like this skylight:

So...Today I resigned and on the second of April I will assume a new role, a new title and multiple new adventures - There is no accounting for the number of butterflies in my stomach - There is not only certainty in the status quo but also certain nervousness with new adventures (...see what I did there?) - Yes, everything changes from this point forward; it's like a bright shiny new present on Christmas morning.

Are you ready to open it with me?

Cheers...B.

AHHHH, NUTS:

... Just a little pic of some empty walnut shells - They have a saying around these parts: "Chico, where the nuts come from" - Could be worse; could be something like: "Chico, where we can not pronounce the word 'Almond' correctly" - AND - Yes, that was a tongue-in-cheek knock at the North State that some of you will not understand.

Happy Monday...B.
