Interesting coincidence that my 100th Blog Post dealt with Will Bruder, the Burton Barr Central Library and this year's Summer Solstice...I would like to tell you that was by design; I would like to tell you that was intentional - That the inspiration for my Blog, my 100th entry and the Solstice coinciding was always a grand "Plan" - BUT - Alas, that is simply not the case...

Just merely one of life's little mysteries...One of those moments you shake your head and reflect on the fact that the universe tends to unfold as it should...

Okay, full disclosure - Will Bruder is my favorite Architect; refer to the header of this Blog for a little more context...In honor of yesterday's Summer Solstice I thought I would share some photos of the Phoenix Public Library - Now known as the "Burton Barr Central Library" - Here is the Wikipedia Page:

There is a method to my madness, however...

... You see, yesterday the fifth floor reading room of the Burton Barr Central Library was more than likely packed with visitors - AND - With the Sun being at the highest point in the sky it will be all year the floating tensile roof was even more amazing than it is on the other 364 days of the year...Yes, the Sun shown through each skylight and kissed each candle-shaped column tip and the entire roof glowed like a steel and concrete candelabra...

Completely breathtaking.

... And that my fellow Trash Canners is why we do this shit...Impact. Place making. The "Wow" moment - Turning something as utilitarian as a metal roof in a public library into an annual event and a canvas for human interaction.

Architecture for Architecture's sake.

Did you know that Disney owns Lucasfilm? - Of course you did because you are an educated individual...I mean hey, you read my Blog right? - I think you would have to have been living under a rock for the last couple of years to not have known -  I mean, I guess that is possible; I try not to meddle in your personal affairs...You can live under a rock if you want.

Yes, it is true the House of Mouse purchased Lucasfilm and the rights to the Star Wars Franchise in the fall of 2012 and J.J. Abrams is on board to direct the first of three upcoming Star Wars films that reportedly will involve Luke, Han and Leia's offspring...Well, make that Luke's offspring and Han and Leia's offspring; stop making this weird, okay? - Perv...

The purchase was for $4.05 billion dollars in October of 2012 - That would be "Billion" with a "B" - Not a bad haul for old George and his weird facial hair and turkey neck - #AmIRight? - Seriously though, the dude has a weird neck...It really is weird looking...Right? - I mean, RIGHT???

Okay, here goes - If you are a 'Fanboy' or even a casual observer of the original six films then you are probably familiar with Luke Skywalker's home planet of Tatooine; pretty desolate planet actually - Large expanses of sand, three red moons, blue milk available on the dinner table, etc...Well, those scenes were filmed in Tunisia and a lot of the actual structures still stand today.

It really is true! - But wait...There is more!!!

You can travel to Tunisia and see these elements that were meant to be in "Galaxy Far, Far Away" up close and personal...Well, I mean, I suppose you could if you were not worried about the violence, unrest and general hatred for Americans in that portion of the continent; assuming you are American.

Honestly I have no idea who reads this Blog...Maybe a bunch of Tunisians?

BUT - If you did elect to visit Tunisia you would be just a stones throw from Libya and Egypt (...pun intended) - Anyway, without further ado, here is the hyperlink for your viewing enjoyment:
